FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

The things Pakistani taxpayers actually ask — about filing, fees, deadlines and what we do.

01What is a filer in Pakistan?

A filer is a taxpayer whose name appears on the FBR's Active Taxpayer List (ATL) because they have filed their income tax return. Filers pay lower withholding tax than non-filers on most transactions.

02Who is required to file a tax return?

Broadly, you must file if your annual income is at or above the threshold (around PKR 600,000), you own a car above a set engine capacity or property above defined limits, or you run a business or earn professional or freelance income.

03When is the Tax Year 2026 deadline?

For individuals and AOPs, the return for Tax Year 2026 is due by 30 September 2026. Companies generally have until 31 December 2026. Filing late means paying a surcharge to stay on the ATL.

04How much does filing with you cost?

We charge a flat fee that depends on your profile — salaried, freelancer, business, or overseas. We confirm your exact fee before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

05How long does it take?

For most salaried filers, we can complete your return within a couple of days once we have your documents. We share everything over WhatsApp — no office visit needed.

06What documents do I need?

Usually your CNIC, a salary or income summary, bank statements for the tax year, and details of major assets for the wealth statement. Our document checklist tool builds a personalised list for you.

07Do freelancers pay tax in Pakistan?

Yes. Income from IT and IT-enabled service exports is taxed as a final tax under §154A — 0.25% if you're registered with PSEB, or 1% if not — provided it arrives through proper banking channels.

08Do overseas Pakistanis need to file?

If you have Pakistan-source income (such as rent or dividends), yes. If you don't, you're not strictly required to file — but staying on the ATL protects your local property and banking from non-filer rates.

09Can I get a tax refund?

Often, yes — especially if you changed jobs or worked only part of the year, since employers withhold as if you earn a full year at your current salary. Our refund estimator shows whether you've over-paid.

10Is everything done online?

Yes. You share documents on WhatsApp or email, and we handle the FBR IRIS portal end to end. The whole process is remote.
